From a young age, I’ve had a passion for the care and welfare of animals, which naturally led me into a career in farriery.
After completing my apprenticeship in the United Kingdom, I earned the Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers before undertaking further study in biomechanics and lameness. These additional qualifications strengthened my understanding of equine movement and the important role hoof balance plays in performance, comfort, and long-term soundness.
Working closely with veterinarians, equine therapists, and horse owners throughout the UK, I developed a strong reputation for remedial farriery. This collaborative approach allowed me to assist with a wide variety of complex cases, tailoring practical hoof care solutions to the individual needs of each horse.
One of the highlights of my career was the opportunity to trim and shoe the Queens horses at Hampton Court Palace’s Royal Paddock. I also had the privilege of working with several UK zoos, where I expanded my experience beyond domestic horses to include giraffe, zebra, tapir, kudu, Przewalski’s horses, and even elephants. These unique opportunities challenged me to continually adapt my skills and reinforced the importance of understanding biomechanics across a diverse range of species.
Today, I continue to work collaboratively with veterinarians and horse owners to provide evidence-informed hoof care, with a particular focus on remedial farriery, rehabilitation, and improving the long-term comfort and soundness of every horse I see.
APPRENTICE - CERTIFICATE IV IN FARRIERY
August’s passion for horses began almost as soon as he could walk. After his first pony ride at just two years old, horses quickly became a huge part of his life. From visiting agricultural shows to riding lessons that began at eight years old, he developed a love of horsemanship that has only continued to grow.
While he once considered following in his grandfather’s footsteps and studying law, it didn’t take long to realise that life outdoors, working with horses, was where he truly belonged. With a passion for showjumping and a strong independent streak, an apprenticeship in farriery was the perfect fit—combining his lifelong love of horses with a practical career where he could continue learning every day.
August has a genuine interest in animal welfare and takes pride in developing his skills to provide the highest standard of hoof care. He’s enthusiastic, hardworking, and enjoys the challenge that every horse brings, making him a valued member of the Conor O’Regan Farriery Services team.
